Xomni runnig slow

I have an HPUX 11i cell manager (DP 5.10), and when I run xomni from an X session it is painfully slow. I know an X session is likely to be comparatively slow, but I've never seen DP this slow. Any ideas as to what if anything I can do to improve the performance?

Joe,

Have you heard of a tool called VNC? If you do, then VNC may very well be your angel...

It's just that there are certain X/Java applications that are so unbearably slow when run accross a network and onto a PC-based X-Server software (ie. KEA X, eXceed, Reflection-X...X-Terminal, Linux Displayetc..)

Actually, I am familiar with VNC. However, this is for a client, and it's their network. We wanted to install the DP user interface on a client laptop, but their parent company who makes policy for the network and desktop environment has restricted us from doing so. We don't have permissions to install software on the client's PC.

Re: Xomni runnig slow

Understood..

Does DP 5.10 have a native Windows client piece like NetBackup does instead of running the full Xomni GUI as a native X-Application accross the network?

You can still however use VNC with no piece to be installed on the PC/laptop. VNC sessions are accessible via the web as well (port 58xx xx being your display number). Since it is on a LAN, speed of the VNC session should not be that bad.

Re: Xomni runnig slow

I will vouch for the VNC. You can read my post from earlier talking about java apps being PAINFULLY slow. I am using Veritas Netbackup. I am quite familar with Data Protector as well.

The older versions of DP I did not have much trouble with.

I installed the VNC on HPUX 11.11, got it fired up, and the java apps work so much better now.

Essentially you have 2 choices (from what I know) 1) put a client on you winblows system and connect to the master, or, 2) install VNC and connect via VNC.

I am using Linux so VNC was my choice. I am finding that the VNC does not take much overhead so it will not choke the system.
