Re: XTerm Hangs
What kind of xterms?
What OS are the servers running?
When was the last time the servers were patched?
Are the PC's and Xterms on the same network?
And when the xterms hang, what actually happens? Do window's disappear?

Re: XTerm Hangs
I'm thinking at the moment that something may be going on with initialzation tables (i.e. /etc/inittab) and/or an issue with your device files may exist...
Firstly, kill any processes associated with the xterm and issue an 'init q' to force init to update the initialization tables..
If that does not cure the ill, confirm that the character device files being used hae appropriate permissions (i.e. 622)..

Re: XTerm Hangs
Servers are running 11.0
Servers have HWE 0602 applied as of August 2002
PC's and Xterms are all on the same subnet.
When the xterms hang, we don't lose windows or anything like that, we lose the keyboard and mouse functionality. We can only do a hard boot to get the Xterms back up and running.

Re: XTerm Hangs
a) First off interogate the NC's console window for related errors : select console from the client launcher.
b) check users $HOME/.dt/errorlogs
c) check in /var/dt/Xerrors
d) at the time of the next disconnect : attempt to ping and nslookup the NC's hostname & ip address on the hpux systems.
This sounds like DNS or similar has problems and is causing the xsessions to disconnect.
other things to check : ensure you have the latest NCD patches installed on top of the latest NCD s/w see http://www.ncd.com/support/docs.html
ps NC900's and I have met I have one close by.

Re: XTerm Hangs
That being said, you must have the bridge software and decide what protocol to use. Obviously, inetd.conf must be configured to allow the protocol. Since you've done that you need to look at the following areas to hope.
The NIC card on these boxes or the HP-9000 could be an issue along with switch port setting. HP's can't stand autonegotiate on the switch.
You need to check the setting on the switch port versus what the NCD's actually expect.
Have your switch admin check the ports for errors and report back.
If inetd logging is set to -l for extra logging, you should see connects and maybe even errors in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
