Re: ypbind daemon hangs..

Sounds like it's not binding to the server. If you open up another session and do a 'ypwhich' does it show that it is bound to the NIS server?

If not you may need to specify the server to bind to in nis startup config file.

Re: ypbind daemon hangs..

Hi Richard:

As a guess, I would say that your NIS server is failing and thus the client (in this case the same server) can't bind. I trust that you have configured an nis slave server so that this doesn't impact your entire domain. You should set NIS_MAXCHECKS=2 (or 3) so that it will give up after a time.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: ypbind daemon hangs..

WOW New cool hats !!
ypwhich
ypwhich: lvadm02 is not running ypbind

And clay this is not a live system i am just testing between 2 servers. So i was not going to create a slave.

Re: ypbind daemon hangs..

Hmmmm..... Well obviously ypbind hasn't started yet. But you knew that already.

Are you sure all the yp services are running on the server? You might try stopping and restarting them if possible.

Re: ypbind daemon hangs..

I can think of 2 things. Is your broadcast address correct ? Do you have /var/yp/secureservers setup and if yes check the syntax ?
