yppasswd help

Hi,

I need a little help with yppasswd. The NIS master is a C200, running 10.20. I don't know about the patch state, because running 'swlist -l bundle' returns an error about not being able to locate a depot at /var/adm/sw. The NIS client is also a C200, running 11.11, patches up-to-date.

Here's my problem:

As a regular user on the NIS client machine, I type 'yppasswd', and am prompted for my old NIS password. Then I'm prompted twice for my new password. This is normal behavior. However, once I enter the second new password, I get the message:

Couldn't change passwd/attributes for mellzey.

Now, on the NIS master, I configured yppasswd logging in /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs. I go and look at the log file and find the following:

105.02.01 13:40:34 cam_raid pid=339 /usr/lib/netsvc/yp/rpc.yppasswdd
mellzey: bad passwd

Both the old NIS password and new one observe the rules for upper/lower case, numeric and special characters.

Has anyone out there had this problem before? If so, what's the solution?

Thanks,
Mark

Side note:

'swlist -l bundle' returns an error about not being able to locate a depot at /var/adm/sw

You kind of need to figure out whats going on there. If your /var filesystem is full, all kinds of strange things are possible.

I would reocmmend upgrading the Master to a supported OS if possible. Beyond that this problem is new to me.

Re: yppasswd help

Steven,

No, /var is not full. It's just that someone moved the 'sw' directory somewhere else. I'll find it and hopefully restore it to it's rightful place.

Thanks,
Mark
