1Gbit and bonding

Hallo,

I have two statement from a hp-partner that I could not believe.

1. 1GBit bond are not supportet on linux.
2. Fix 1GBit network speed doesn't work on 1Gbit-Ethernet, only autonegoation.

Is this true? Do you habe additional informations?

Thanks for your help.

Regards, Uli

Re: 1Gbit and bonding

1 is wrong,
2 is right (or at least it's a bad thing to use forced speed for 1GBit NICs )

Re: 1Gbit and bonding

You might want to ask your source what their source is for the first statement. We have many customers running gigabit interfaces in bonding sets...on various versions of the OS.

The spec for gigabit network cards states that at 1G speeds, it is required that autonegotiation be enabled. Some vendors drivers will ignore any attempt to disable it at this speed.
