Adressing JetDirect 500X / howto adress different ports
I am trying to configure a external JetDirect 500X to work in my network.
From W2K I use the HP Install Network Printer Wizzard version 3.04
Doing this 3 connected printers get correctly detected and configured.
All 3 print correct.
When I try to install these same printers from my Linux box, all printjobs are issued to the one printer that is on the Config Page Port n├В┬░1.
When I try to config JetDirect 500X:
how do I assign different names to each port, or how do I indicate to Linux to which port the printer is attached?
Does the Community Name apply to the individual port or to the JetDirect 500X printserver in general?
Is there any way to config via telnet? If so, where to find the correct commands?
Thanks,
Erw

First go to the 'Manuals' to fetch 'HP JetDirect Print Servers 600N/400N/500X/300X Administrator's Guide'. This should (hopefully) answer all your questions.

Re: Adressing JetDirect 500X / howto adress different ports
Thanks for your response;
I already had the manual on my system, but couldn't find the answers at first sight. At least now I'm sure I have the right manual.
Could you answer a little more specific?
Is it possible / necessary to specify a "Community Name" for each of the 3 ports?
Thanks,
Erwin

Re: Adressing JetDirect 500X / howto adress different ports
Solution is easy: use ip-no:port-no,
e.g. normally port
9100 will adress port 1
9101 will adress port 2
9102 will adress port 3
That's basically all there is to it.
Thanks,
Erwin
