advice needed.. accidently running tmpwatch at wrong place
hello,
i have this one problem:
this morning i was trying to clear /tmp partition but i didnt realize what i type was:
tmpwatch 0 / when it suppose to be tmpwatch 0 /tmp . i manage to press CTRL+C after few seconds but what happen is cpanel/whm is showing blank page, ssh connection refused, server login or ftp login not accepted even when i try to login to server directly at datacenter as root user. but surprisingly the website works just as fine.im not sure whether the server will reboot fine if i try to rebooting it.
i need the data inside the hdd so i need some advice pls:
1. it is possible for me to boot using cent-os cd and then running some kind of fix or reinstallation without disturbing the current partition and files?
2. if not possible im planning to install clean on new server and plug the old hdd to new server to take the data,im using HPDL380 G4 so im not sure this will work or not since im afraid the multi array will force the hdd to be formatted to be added to the hdd slot,i appreciate if someone could guide me how to simply plug old hdd to current disk array without disturbing the data in it.
thanks

yes, If you have your data on a separate partition then you can reinstall-repair your OS using a CD.
remember not to format the partition on which your data resides during install/repair

You can also boot from the CD in "rescue" mode with network enabled. This will allow you to tar/copy your configuration and data files to another host. Then you can reinstall the system.
Bad tmpwatch, bad!
