any way to bypass unidata SB+ menus to run a batch job.

My parent company has an old unix box running unidata with SB+client and server. I don't know much about it. But I was told I can run "udt" to get to a udtprompt and run some type of udt program.

I tried it on their test database and instead of a prompt I got a gui menu that did not look too good on my vt220 terminal.

Is there a way for a unix batch process to by-pass the human gui interface.

I know it can be done in sybase.
I know it can be done in mysql.
I'm sure it can be done in Oracle.
....unidata? SB+????
Anybody know anything about this thingy?

Nothing huh?

Well, the unidata programmer they have on contract suggested we make another "account". (An "account" is a directory in unix, and is called a "database" by anybody else. )

Making a new account, I get in with no problems because this new account doesn't have SB+ all over it. The next step is to figure out how to access the programs and tables in the SB+ account from here.

It's a bit closer. I'm in the water. I'm just in the wrong swimming pool.

ok, i know just enough to be dangerous, but:

the stuff in the the various files that the new "account" doesn't have defines what data you can access and what commands you can run...

you might find some help on google groups
comp.databases.pick, and I believe they have a users group as well.

You *might* have ODBC access, perhaps the "contractor" might shed some light

Thanks.
That google group you mentioned had a few links talking about SB+.

According to the messages, lots people have been bugging them for years for the ability to run a job from cron.

There was one message from 1998 that had some code to bypass the menus of SB+. I passed it onto the contractor. Only the unix parts held any meaning to me.
