Anyone setup NIS server on SLES V9 w/password expiration ?
Has anyone tried to setup an nis server on SLES v9 and also been successful at using password expiration ?
I've managed to get this working to some extent but I see many inconistancies. Yast for example doesn't seem to add the new users to the NIS database but instead adds them to the custom database.
In order to get the password expiration to work must you tell yast to combine the passwd and shadow files ?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Shalom,
Sounds like a bug to me. How is the system patched?

Re: Anyone setup NIS server on SLES V9 w/password expiration ?
RE: how is system patched.....not quite sure as I'm more familiar with redhat than suse. How would we go about finding out ?
Sounds like the customer may have it working now but only for telnet and rlogin. It doesn't work for ssh. I have no idea if ssh is capable of reading the shadow information for an account.
I am able to reproduce this as well.....an account that has expired says so for a telnet login, but ssh simply keeps asking for the password prompt and eventually gives up.
Perhaps this is correct behaviour...not sure.

SLES V9 is a product sold and serviced by SuSE, please call up SuSE support and ask.
