bcm5700 performance on a DL 380?

I built the HP supported bcm5700 driver for RedHat ES 3 and am using it, but I have noticied that network performance is about 10x slower than using the RedHat supplied tg3 module. Anyone have any clue where I could begin to check to see what the problem is?

For starters, don't use the RH supplied TG3 module. Use the HP supplied 'bcm5700' driver.

This will fix most of your issues.

Did you set the speed as a module option?
I would start checking speed and duplex settings...

Re: bcm5700 performance on a DL 380?

Stuart, I'm saying the Red Hat tg3 module works *better* than the HP supplied bcm5700 module. I have forced 100/Full on the Nic, as it is set on the switch side. I did this by editing /etc/modules.conf:

alias eth0 bcm5700
options bcm5700 line_speed=100 full_duplex=1 auto_speed=0

[root@localhost root]# mii-tool eth0
eth0: 100 Mbit, full duplex, link ok

However, it takes about 2.5 minutes to transfer a file that takes 13 seconds to transfer when using the tg3 module.

There does seem to be a network driver issue.

This current thread though SuSe shows a common thread, the NIC driver.
