bios dead? VL6/xxx series 8
This question is about the hardware of a VL6/400 series 8 machine running RH Linux 7.2.
I use this machine to run a gateway with IP masquerading. One day the network connection would not respond and I found the machine dead.
I can turn on and off the machine, but nothing happens after I switch on the power. No self-test of keyboard, monitor, nor any indication of BIOS activity. The CD tray does comes out, but the CapsOn and NumLock keys do not lit up when pressed.
My questions are: 1) I suspect that either the BIOS or the motherboard is dead. 2) if you agree, what would you suggest me do? 3) I can't seem to find a chip on the motherboard that resembles a BIOS chip. Any hint?
Many thanks,
Yuelin Li.

Re: bios dead? VL6/xxx series 8
Use a voltmeter to check your power supply outputs. Sounds more like you may have lost the 5 volts or possibly the voltage regulator which takes the 5 volts down to 3.3.
