Broken raid 1+0

I have a broken raid 1+0 on a dl360g4 with Smart Array 6i.

I have attempted to use the hpaculci utility to fix the raid as well as rebooting the machine with the drives and then rebooting again with the drives in as recommended by HP.

Below is the output of "hpacucli ctrl slot=0 pd all show"

Smart Array 6i in Slot 0 (Embedded)

array A (Failed)

physicaldrive 1:0 (port 1:id 0 , Parallel SCSI, 36.4 GB, OK)
physicaldrive 2:1 (port 2:id 1 , Parallel SCSI, ??? GB, Failed)

unassigned

physicaldrive 1:1 (port 1:id 1 , Parallel SCSI, 36.4 GB, OK)

The physicaldrive 2:1 does not exist and I don't know where the raid controller got this drive(from the aether) . What I tried to do using the hpacucli command was to add the drive 1:1 to the raid and then remove the non existent drive. However I just get the below message when trying to affect the array or logicaldrive:

hpacucli ctrl slot=0 array A add drives=1:1

Error: This operation is not supported with the current configuration. Use the
"show" command on devices to show additional details about the
configuration.

Any suggestions or help that will save me from migrating the host to a new physical machine would be greatly appriciated. Also letting me know that I can't use the hpacucli to modify the raid0+1 would be good to know was well.

Thanks,
Keith.

Re: Broken raid 1+0

Shalom Keith,

You are better off in these circumstances booting the system at the console and using the utility built into nvram to try and rebuild the array.

Also, phsically inspect the machine and see if the disk light on any disks is amber.

re-seating the drive can get you out of this long enough to get a good backup of the data.

The RAID card itself might be failing, or could use a bios upgrade.
