Can't get /etc/mtab~ lock filemount failed

When I try to mount a remote filesystem with mount -t smbfs ... I get the following message:
Can't get /etc/mtab~ lock filemount failed
I am using RedHat 6.1 (smb 2.0.5a)

Gumeni,

Try to delete the File get /etc/mtab~.
Thats no problem you can do it.
Then try the mount again. Normally it works. If not, please post your full mount command.

Gumeni,

If you delete the file, don't forgett the "~" at the end of the command. Its important. Do not delete the file /etc/mtab (without "~"). It contains the information about mounted File Systems
