Re: cannot connect Host to Guest OS (vmware)

Shalom,

Check networking on the windows side , ipcconfig.

If there is no ip address there play with vmware until you get an ip.

If there is an ip address, check what services are running.

netstat -an look for the daemon listening on the proper port.

Re: cannot connect Host to Guest OS (vmware)

Do you have any network bridging configured? Try looking at brctl, and also ensure that you don't have any rogue routes.

If the vmware services are running the "bridged" IP address should be the same as your real host. Can you provide the output from ifconfig -a ?

Re: cannot connect Host to Guest OS (vmware)

starting vmware :

root@darkstar:/var/log# /etc/rc.d/vmware start
Starting VMware services:
Virtual machine monitor done
Virtual ethernet done
Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0 done
Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet1 (background) done
Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet8 (background) done
NAT service on /dev/vmnet8 done
Starting VMware virtual machines... done

Re: cannot connect Host to Guest OS (vmware)

Why doesn't eth0 have a valid IP-address assigned to it? This could be the source of your problem.

Re: cannot connect Host to Guest OS (vmware)

I would start by looking at the contents of your "/etc/sysconfig/networking-scripts/ifcfg-eth0" file and/or run "system-config-network" to see what Linux thinks is happening with the card. Another approach would be to disable any VMWare services then reboot your system and see if the card starts off with a valid address, and that the comms work OK.

searched /etc and i think i dont have the file you have mentioned. . .

2. how can i run system-config-network

3. i already stopped vmware script but still running ifconfig -a displays the same. .

Sorry I assumed Redhat, I'm not a Slackware expert so think you may have to google for some answers. Sorry.
