CD Writer 8200i on Linux Mandrake 9.0

Hello World.
When installing Linux Mandrake 9.0 on my PC the installation stops at the last prompt when loading Linux.
I disconnected my 8200i from the Second IDE Slave and it runs.
When connecting the 8200i again Linux stops booting at the last prompt.
The hardware is OK under Win 98SE if the bus speed to the 8200i is reduced. I tried to choke the bus speed even more without success.
Any tips?

Hello,

At LILO prompt, try :

linux hdd=ide-scsi

If it works, edit /etc/lilo.conf and add :

append="hdd=ide-scsi".

With Linux, you will then use /dev/scd0 instead of /dev/hdd.
