CDROM PROBLEM

I'd like to thank Marc, Huc Patrick, alex and all for helping me with this CDROM problem. My boss was about to kick me to the curb. Problem is resolved with many of your suggestions that I missed. Not new at HP-UX but Linus, even though UNIX, is still a little different. Thanks for the help. I did have another question. The reason I built this kernel is because we needed ACL support for SAMBA, so We can control this through the windoze side of the house. We are using mondo rescue to capture the core OS and data to cd/DVD. My question is, I dont think that mondo backs up the ACL entries. So if I run a recovery, I may loose this. Is there a backup method I can use to backup ACL's to tape? Not sure if anyone is doing this or not, but when I run Mondorecovery and I go to the menu to create disk area, I dont believe it will give me the option to choose XFS filesystem. So Im not sure if this entire process will work on a SAMBA box using XFS/ACL support.

Re: CDROM PROBLEM

Robert, I think you are going to have to use "pax". This is available for linux for all distributions.

Re: CDROM PROBLEM

Hi Robert,

A good tool supporting ACL is Star, the ACL enabled version. You can get it here :
http://acl.bestbits.at/
I confirm to you that, as for now, Mondo doesn't support ACL.
I asked Hugo to have a look at it...

Re: CDROM PROBLEM

Just a to add to the list this is what I have found

http://dar.linux.free.fr/

I have not tested this it its under GPL and claims it can backup/restore ACL and extended attributs.

If you try/test any of theses tell use how they fare .

Hope it helps.

Re: CDROM PROBLEM

Hi,

I'm in contact with afio maintainer (the tool used by Mondo to backup), trying to get ACL supported on next release. In between, if you like Mondo, there is still the possibility to backup and restore your ACLs :
http://acl.bestbits.at/using.html

But of course, it can be quite a heavy job if you have many directories..

If you try one of the tools suggested, and like it, tell us!

Tks
