compress segmentation fault

When I use:
compress -f tarname.tar

I receive a segmenation fault message.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Check the file type of tarname.tar. Is it a regular file ? What are the permissions ?

Another useless added factiod.

gzip gets better compression ratios on most files than compress.

Just something to think about.
