I have purchased a packaged cluster 381367-421 (2 dl380R04 & 1 MSA500G2) with a high availability kit 360229-B21. This cluster is running on RedHat AS 4 and wil host a Oracle 10G Real Application Cluster.
I tried to install the latest version of the cpq_cciss multipath software cpq_cciss-2.6.10-13.rhel4.i686.rpm. It is the only one I found on your web site.
This is the result of the command :
[root@erasme ~]# rpm -ivh cpq_cciss-2.6.10-13.rhel4.i686.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
install kernels are 2.6.9-11.EL
2.6.9-11.ELhugemem
2.6.9-11.ELsmp
2.6.9-22.EL
2.6.9-22.ELhugemem
2.6.9-22.ELsmp
2.6.9-5.0.3.EL
2.6.9-5.0.3.ELhugemem
2.6.9-5.0.3.ELsmp
2.6.9-5.EL
2.6.9-5.ELhugemem
2.6.9-5.ELsmp
The currently running kernel (2.6.9-42.0.2.ELsmp) is not
supported by this rpm. The supported kernels are:
2.6.9-11.EL
2.6.9-11.ELhugemem
2.6.9-11.ELsmp
2.6.9-22.EL
2.6.9-22.ELhugemem
2.6.9-22.ELsmp
2.6.9-5.0.3.EL
2.6.9-5.0.3.ELhugemem
2.6.9-5.0.3.ELsmp
2.6.9-5.EL
2.6.9-5.ELhugemem
2.6.9-5.ELsmp
Please boot into a supported kernel before installing this rpm
error: %pre(cpq_cciss-2.6.10-13.i686) scriptlet failed, exit status 1
error: install: %pre scriptlet failed (2), skipping cpq_cciss-2.6.10-13
[root@erasme ~]#
Is there a more recent version of the soft available as rpm? should I use a less recent version of Red Hat AS 4. I installed the latest update.
Thanks in adavance for your assistance.
Philippe

Re: cpq_cciss for Red Hat AS 4
Seem itâ s mandatory to install the 2.6.9-42.0.2.ELhugemem kernel, however,(Not sure) you can try changing file /etc/redhat-release like this:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4(Nahant)
Thanks!

Re: cpq_cciss for Red Hat AS 4
Could you tell me how to dessociate the file.
A gzip -dv 280919.gz is not enough to get it.
Thanks

Re: cpq_cciss for Red Hat AS 4
It is better, because compatible with a newer kernel, but still not compatible to mine.
[root@erasme cpq_cciss-2.6.12-6.rhel4.i686]# rpm -ivh cpq_cciss-2.6.12-6.rhel4.i686.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
The currently running kernel (2.6.9-42.0.2.ELsmp) is not
supported by this rpm. The supported kernels are:
2.6.9-11.EL
2.6.9-11.ELhugemem
2.6.9-11.ELsmp
2.6.9-22.EL
2.6.9-22.ELhugemem
2.6.9-22.ELsmp
2.6.9-34.EL
2.6.9-34.ELhugemem
2.6.9-34.ELsmp
2.6.9-5.0.3.EL
2.6.9-5.0.3.ELhugemem
2.6.9-5.0.3.ELsmp
2.6.9-5.EL
2.6.9-5.ELhugemem
2.6.9-5.ELsmp
Please boot into a supported kernel before installing this rpm
error: %pre(cpq_cciss-2.6.12-6.i686) scriptlet failed, exit status 1
error: install: %pre scriptlet failed (2), skipping cpq_cciss-2.6.12-6
I need a newer one or to accept booting on kernel 2.6.9-34.ELsmp
And I do not want it.
Thanks again

Re: cpq_cciss for Red Hat AS 4
I booted my RedHat 4 AS on the kernel 2.6.9-34.ELsmp.
I was then able to install the cpq_cciss-2.6.12-6.rhel4.i686.rpm
The multipath is set up. But not on the good kernel. I hope HP will deliver a kernel 2.6.9-42.0.2.ELsmp compliant software in the future.
Thanks Sandeep.
