I need to create a boot disk. Do I do this from the command line? I dont see a menu option.

Since you do not mention which distro you are interested in...
Using SuSE you can create a boot disk using yast in the system menu

You also don't mention whether you want the bootdisk to boot a single machine, or any machine.
The process is different depending on the answer.
The 'mkbootdisk' command that was given is good for booting the machine it was created on, or of a machine where you know where the root HDD partitions are.
If you are wanting to boot another machine though, you'll need to find a different tool
