Definition of MSL6030 Tape Drives on RHEL AS4
The content of /proc/scsi/scsi is:
Attached devices:
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: HP Model: MSL6000 Series Rev: 0516
Type: Medium Changer ANSI SCSI revision: 02
/dev/sg0 is available now. Data Protector also could find Medium Changer. But no tape drive.
There are no /dev/st* files as tape device files.
"lsmod |grep st" does not have any output.
Could u plz explain all needed process to create Tape device files.
Thanks.

Re: Definition of MSL6030 Tape Drives on RHEL AS4
There should be some external SCSI cables connected between the controller card and the drives. If these cables are not correctly installed, the RHEL machine cannot communicate with the tape drives.
See step 7 of this document:
http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00873663/c00873663.pdf
Have you configured your system to support multiple LUNs? This is a common requirement with FC. In a SAN environment, it would be usual to set the max_luns value to something like 64 or 128. But if you've connected the machine to this single tape library only, values as small as 3 might be enough for you.
RedHat Knowledge Base on multi-LUN configuration:
http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-3293
Are there any FC switches between the MSL6030 library and the RHEL machine? If so, are you certain they're correctly configured?

Re: Definition of MSL6030 Tape Drives on RHEL AS4
MSL wa connected to Windows machine previously and was working fine. So the Cabling is ok.
Is there any configuration needed on e1200-160 router for connecting to linux machine ?

Re: Definition of MSL6030 Tape Drives on RHEL AS4
Cabling is ok.
Router setting is also proper.
"dmesg |grep -i tape" does not have any output.
lsmod |grep -i st:
st 40157 0
scsi_mod 117709 7 st,sg,aic7xxx,lpfc,scsi_transport_fc,cciss,sd_mod
/proc/scsi/scsi:
Attached devices:
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00
Vendor: HP Model: MSL6000 Series Rev: 0516
Type: Medium Changer ANSI SCSI revision: 02
There is no "st" file in /dev
Any idea?

Re: Definition of MSL6030 Tape Drives on RHEL AS4
You probabably need to tell Linux to scan for multiple LUNs on a target.
See my old thread here where Uwe told me how to do this:
