Defragmentation on Linux file system

What about defragmentation on Linux?
It seems ext3 and most other opensource file systems don't need defragmenting and defragments itself on the fly.

Frankly, I've never had the need to do this. ext3 is superior to NTFS and does not fragment.

But if you must defragment and want the small boost you get, you can always periodically back up, recreate the filesystem and restore.
