disk not found when i installing redhat
hi,please tell me the solution. while installing red hat linux enterprise version 4 or redhat 9, it is showing "[b]as no hard drive found.please add drive.after that it is showing fast ether net found"
When I was installing, I found the following information.
First step: I selected the graphical mode. Then it displayed the following information.
тАЬNo hard drives have been found. You probably need to manually choose device drivers for the installation to succeed.Would you like to select drivers now.
1. YES 2.No
I selected YES.
Second step: It displayed the following information.
тАЬThe following devices have been found on your system.
RTL 8139, SMC EZ card Fast Ethernet (8139too)
1. DONE 2.ADD DEVICE.
Third step: If I select either one, it is running anaconda ,red hat enterprise and finally goes to graphical mode. After selecting languages, mouse and keyboard options, then it asks, how can u select the partition either automatically or manually partition with disk druid.
If ,I select either one , it was showing the following information.
тАЬ An error has occurred,no valid devices were found on which to create new file systems,.please check your hardware for the cause of this problem.тАЭ
After that the system is rebooting auto matically.
please help me

Re: disk not found when i installing redhat
You don't say what hardware you're trying to install onto, however it would appear that there is no support for your hardware in the kernel of RedHat that you're trying to load...
Try searching for your hardware on RedHat's hardware compatibility list here:
https://hardware.redhat.com/
That should give you some hints as to what drivers you need...
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Rob

Re: disk not found when i installing redhat
This seems to be a hardware issue. To help, it would be necessary to know what type of hardware you have.
If its a HP server, you may need to prepare the disk prior to install. Watch the boot sequence from a console. There may be an option to configure raid or storage by hitting a function key.
If you provide a model number, I can provide more meaningful help.

Re: disk not found when i installing redhat
The problem will be to find the driver disk if the hardware is not certified for RHEL.

Re: disk not found when i installing redhat
The drivers page for the DX2200 only lists XP and Vista, so you may be out of luck :-(

You might be able to get something from AMD's site (they make the Radeon chipset used on the motherboard) however I had a quick look and could only find Linux drivers for the graphics card.

Re: disk not found when i installing redhat
Definitely RedHat 9 has a very old kernel and will not see your disk controller.
Using a newer version RH distro you have a chance. Probably most current version of RH Fedora supports your motherboard chipset. Or you can try to use Intel's "Quick Start Kit for Linux" for Intel Desktop Boards

Re: disk not found when i installing redhat
I'd say first thing to do is get a modern Linux.
Is there a guarantee that it will have drivers for this hardware? No. You seem to have chosen hardware that is specifically designed to NOT run Linux.
Perhaps a different PC if possible.
Welcome to the ITRC forums. If these answers other than mine have been helpful, please assign my colleagues here some points.
