Re: dl360 g4 with united linux 1.0 sp3 (sles 8)
The problem is that the united linux does
not recognise the smart array 6i.
i tried the dd smart array driver from HP
support site with no help.
Shalom.

Re: dl360 g4 with united linux 1.0 sp3 (sles 8)
in RHAS 3.0 version you need to use
at least U3 for the smart array 6i to be
recognized.

Re: dl360 g4 with united linux 1.0 sp3 (sles 8)
and follow the instructions.
The driver which comes with sles 8 SP 3 does NOT support the SA 6i, therefore you need the driver update disk.
Note that the cciss version 2.4.52-11 which can be found at http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/21191.html support SLES 8 kernels up to 2.4.21-261. If you need support for the latest kernel (2.4.21-273) you have to contact HP for the latest cciss 2.4.52-12.
BTW: SLES 8 SP4 (available soon) will include a updated cciss.

Kai-Uwe

Solutionon additional info:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/installnotes-dl.html#dl360g4_sles8
---cut---
When the Linux "boot" screen is displayed, press the left ALT key to indicate to the installer that a DUD is required to install the operating system. Insert the "UL 6i driver diskette" in the diskette drive and type the following boot option:
pci=noacpi
---cut--
Maybe you have missed to press the ALT key for the Driver Update Disk.
Also you schould use the kernel option pci=noacpi (or at least acpi=oldboot), because SLES 8 has some problems with newer ACPI implementations.
Good Luck,
Kai-Uwe

Re: dl360 g4 with united linux 1.0 sp3 (sles 8)
I solved the problem by using UL 1.0 SP4.
Thanks a lot.

Re: dl360 g4 with united linux 1.0 sp3 (sles 8)
is SP4 already released, i thougt it was in beta status at the moment?
Anyway, SP4 include a updated cciss, so it is the best solution (no DUD needed, no trouble with further kernel updates and so on).
Glad that it is working for you now.
Regards,
Kai-Uwe

Re: dl360 g4 with united linux 1.0 sp3 (sles 8)
When you boot from linux install cd ,type "linux dd" for REDHAT linux or press F6 for SUSE linux to loading driver from driver disk.

Re: dl360 g4 with united linux 1.0 sp3 (sles 8)
The customer tried to load the driver with
no success.
About the UL , yes its Beta .
Bty: When i define the root file system
reiserfs the system did not boot , it seems
that there was no grub installed.
Only when i installed the system with root
as EXT3 filesystem the system boot with no
Problem.
Shalom.

Re: dl360 g4 with united linux 1.0 sp3 (sles 8)
just for information:
SP 4 for SLES 8 is released.
So i'm hopefull that the problems with the G4 Servers (Smart Array 6i) are solved.
SP4 contains a updated cciss with support for this controller.
Bye,
Kai-Uwe

Re: dl360 g4 with united linux 1.0 sp3 (sles 8)
Did you create /boot ? If you want to use reiserfs, you should create /boot .
