DL580G2 - SLES8 hang with PSP7
I'm not sure, I'm in the correct forum but I hope there will be someone to help me.
I'm running 4 DL 580 G2 box with Suse Linux Enterprise Server 8 SP2a and SAP. Until beginning of last week, everything was running fine. I decided to upgrade Proliant Support Pack from version 6.40 to version 7.00, then ... server chrash randomly, without anything unusual written in syslog file.
If ASR is activated, server reboots by itself. If not, server is "pingable" but no login allowed ( linux side, SAP side).
Does anyone else face this problem? Has someone seen a similar post somewhere in this forum?

Re: DL580G2 - SLES8 hang with PSP7
Denis,
I haven't heard of similar problems with the files from the PSP v7.00. However, something is definitely causing you problems.
To try to isolate the problem, can you try the following:
1) Check the IML log on the server. You can do this by using the cpqimlviewer utility. You may need to install tclx to use the UI portion of it, but it will show you if there are any problems being logged to the server IML log.
2) Are you getting any SNMP traps from the agents? Any traps could point towards the cause of the problem.
3) Being able to ping the server but not being able to login sounds like there is an issue with the storage subsystem. You could try removing the HP Storage Agent (rpm -e cmastor) to see if there is a problem there.
4) Also, you could re-install just the cpq_cciss RPM (or other controller RPM) from a previous PSP to see if there is a problem with the newer driver in the PSP and your controller.
5) If you have physical access to the server when it is in a failing state, can you change to the terminal window (CTRL+ALT+F2) and see any panics or warnings?
If you have more information that could help isolate the issue after trying the above, I'll be glad to look at it.
Hope this helps,
Michael Garner

Re: DL580G2 - SLES8 hang with PSP7
Hello Michael,
For the moment, I have disabled PSP on all my linux box to have a stable environment.
When I will be sure all is OK, ( I would say beginning of next week), I will restart it on a development box and try all you wrote here.
Thanks or your help
Denis
