DL585 running Linux AS 4 sp2 32 bit
customer states DL585 has 16G of memory but os only see's 4 unless using bigmem kernel.
he heard there might be a bios issue. also states that bigmem kernel has performance issues. he would rather use regular kernel if possible.

Re: DL585 running Linux AS 4 sp2 32 bit
Shalom stephen,
Actually a 32 bit machine is limited to addressing 2 GB of memory at one time.
The bigmem kernel allows you to address more memory and should improve performance, especially for heavy hitting applications like oracle.
I've not seen performance issues while using that kernel on RH 4.

Re: DL585 running Linux AS 4 sp2 32 bit
Try specifying at boot time the memory that you have, like:
mem=16384
You should use red hat provided kernel, it has major changes that makes the performance better comparing to the standart kernel.
