erroneous SM_UNMON request entries in messages

I updated the nfs-utils package to
nfs-utils-1.0.6-33EL
and the kernel to
2.4.21-27.0.2 on a RHEL 3.0 AS system last night.

I have started getting the following in
my messages file:

Mar 2 20:00:29 han rpc.statd[13712]: Received erroneous SM_UNMON request from han.us.glenraven.com for ......

It doesnt appear to be causing any significant problems but I'm not sure.

Any ideas on what might be causing this?

Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Was "statd" run by root?

No, it is run by rpcuser

Re: erroneous SM_UNMON request entries in messages

Maybe it should run as root.

Re: erroneous SM_UNMON request entries in messages

it runs as rpcuser on the unpatched systems without a problem. An rpcuser as the appropriate permissions.

Did you ever sorted out this problem?

I've also been seeing these errors on RHEL 3.0 Update 4 Linux clients. But unlike you, the last change I made to these clients involved telling them to go to another NIS server. The errors involve the old NIS server IP address. Even if I remove the old NIS server IP from /var/lib/nfs/statd/sm, it still re-appears "magically".

The other baffling thing is that if you read the message carefully, it seems to say that the client itself is sending the erroneous SM_UMON request, i.e.:
