I have a linux RH9 server. I am trying to ftp into this linux system from an HP-UX system running Network Node Manager. I cant ftp from the HPux system as root. How can I get the linux system to allow me to ftp into the box as root?

You should not ftp tot he hp system as root.
There is a security entrt in /etc/ftpuser file for root.
A properly patches hp-ux server using wu-ftpd will deny root ftp logins. The file above is how you override that.
You are better off using sftp secure shell from a security standpoint.
The ftp session transmists root password back and forth in clear text. Secure Shell openssh encrypts it.
