ftp

I have a linux RH9 server. I am trying to ftp into this linux system from an HP-UX system running Network Node Manager. I cant ftp from the HPux system as root. How can I get the linux system to allow me to ftp into the box as root?

Re: ftp

You probably need to look at the /etc/ftpaccess file which by default, I think denies access to UID's under 1024 or something

Re: ftp

You should not ftp tot he hp system as root.

There is a security entrt in /etc/ftpuser file for root.

A properly patches hp-ux server using wu-ftpd will deny root ftp logins. The file above is how you override that.

You are better off using sftp secure shell from a security standpoint.

The ftp session transmists root password back and forth in clear text. Secure Shell openssh encrypts it.
