GRUB error after Blade imaging.

Hi,

We've got a c7000 enclosure with several identical Blades and wanted to migrate the contents of one to another. However after using RDeploy to backup and restore a Blade the new server (same hardware) just booted to a prompt saying GRUB.

The only option available to me was to boot to a linux prompt via the RDP server and then I ran GRUB, find /grub/stage1, root (hd0,0) and then setup(hd0). After this I then received the error GRUB Hard Disk Error on bootup.

Is it not possible to image a server to server for Linux?

Thanks
Jase

Re: GRUB error after Blade imaging.

I have never heard of RDeploy, but I generally have no problem cloning linux drives between reasonably identical hardware by piping dd through ssh via a couple of livecds. See this document for hints: http://karlherrick.com/dev/2008/09/12/dd-backups-over-ssh/

You didn't mention what version of Linux you are using -- there are some versions (particularly, SuSE > 10.2) that require modifications to both the menu.lst and fstab files to reflect the drive locations better. See this document if it applies to your situation: http://www.novell.com/support/php/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=3048119

Re: GRUB error after Blade imaging.

Hi

Rdeploy comes with HP ICE and is basically a Ghost type application. The OS version is RH4 update 6.

I'll have a look at those documents and hopefully I'll be able to get this working.

Many thanks
