I'm familiar with IPChains? OS RedHat 6.2 will be upgrading to 7.0
Have not compiled Kernel.

What does your Linux machine have to do?
Does it have to act as DNS, Webserver, ...?

you will find several HOWTO's there, including a Firewall-howto, networking-howto, etc...
Have fun learning Linux. You will have to read a lot, but the reward afterwards will be very satisfying !

Please read the Home-networking-mini-Howto in your Redhat7.0 doc CD (if you have). You need to have two NIC on your linux box. It is a matter of 10min setting. First time you might have some problem. Recently I have done this successfully.
