How can I mount 5x18GB RAID 5
On a Dell server I install Linux RedHat 8.0 on a RAID 1 (two 18GB disks). After installation I added RAID 5 (5 disks) to the machine. Now I want to mount second logical driver
THIS IS
/dev>fdisk -l /dev/sda
Disk /dev/sda: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 2202 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes
Device Boot Start End
/dev/sda1 * 1
/dev/sda2 14 2072
/dev/sda3 2073 2202
___________________
This is the RAID 5 grup I guess
/dev>fdisk -l /dev/sdb
Disk /dev/sdb: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 8810 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes
Disk /dev/sdb doesn't contain a valid partition table
_______________
When I try to mount
mount /dev/sdb /home -t ext3
LINUX SAYS
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb,
or too many mounted file systems
Which one is my problem ? is /dev/sdb the right device for RAID 5 ?
How can I mount this 5x18GB RAID 5 disk group in Linux ?

Re: How can I mount 5x18GB RAID 5
Just need to clarify your RAID 1 configuration... Is that hardware RAID or software RAID? I ask because if it's sw RAID, then sda and sdb may be the mirrored pair for the md devices. Let's take a hard look:
df
fdisk -l
cat /proc/mdstat
Once you've determined which device is RAID5, then you need to [optionally] partition it and format the filesystem(s) before it can be mounted. See the man pages for fdisk, mkfs, mount, and fstab for details.

Re: How can I mount 5x18GB RAID 5
So you have a total of 8 discs in two packs? One pack is RAID 5 and one is RAID 0. Really that does not matter, you have two logical partitions, and you want to mount the new one, which should be straight fwd if you have set your RAID up right, either HW (beeter) or SW.
If you have plans to do more of this I recommend you look into an LVM, eith the Sistina one for Linux or Veritas for Linux.
