hp dv9000 and Red Hat ES 4

I am trying to install Red Hat ES 4 as my second OS.

Vista works fine. I have a partition with 70GB free space and unallocated (used the Vista shrink tool).

When I put in the RHES4u4 disk it gets to loading the ahci drivers and then stops. It does the same for RHESu3. This is at the very beginning of the install. Other consoles do not give me any info on what is going on.

I am using the AMD/EM64T version of Red Hat as the Intel Core 2 Duo processor is 64 bit capable with a 64 bit OS.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I need to use Red Hat as I am trying to get a company product installed on the laptop.

Windows has been known to purposely make it difficult to install a second OS on the hard disk. The shrink tool is nice but may be leaving the MBR in a condition in which RH can't recognize it.

From the install screen with ctrl-alt-F1 and subsequent keys you can see diagnostics. There is likely to be in F2 or F3 or F4 a very helpful diagnostic message.

Of possible it might be better to Install Vista into a partition set up and managed by Linux.

Alternatively you might find linux runs well with vmware running under windows.

My condolences on using Vista. I try to avoid Microsoft OS's until the first service pack.
