HP SmartArray 6i Controller Driver no werky on install of RH3 on DL360 G4

I read and followed instructions at:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?admit=716493758+1105018113814+28353475&threadId=694051

which say to download the disk image, create a disk image (I've done it from Win with rawrite and from linux using dd as well)

the file I'm using is cpq_cciss-2.4.48-12.rhel3.i386.dd.gz and I got of from the HP page that says,

"Driver diskette image for ProLiant Linux (x86) driver for Smart Array 6i, 64xx, 5i, 53xx Series controllers for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3(x86)"

http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/20421.html

Since I've got G4 (3.4Ghz), does that mean I've gotta find/wait for a new driver image from HP? the URL shown above says it's good for "ProLiant DL360 G3 (2.4-3.2GHz), G2 (1.26-1.4GHz)"?

points and many thanks for any help

cheers,
Kevin

I think you need a different image for the G4 processor.

It might not exist yet, in which case you can't do the OS install.

Here is the place to get the driver for G4:

http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/22028.html

It says supported systems:

ProLiant DL360 G4 (3.0-3.6GHz+), G3 (2.4-3.2GHz), G2 (1.26-1.4GHz)

ahh, that page links an RPM, but searching for some of the keywords at the top brought me to:

I'll assign points after I try it tomorrow.

Did you try Fedora 3
It work fine :)
If you don't need multy CPU kernel
Fedora is realy better than AS :)

What distribution are you trying to use?

RH ES? RH AS? SuSE? other?
One long-haired git at your service...

Re: HP SmartArray 6i Controller Driver no werky on install of RH3 on DL360 G4

Stuart, I'm on RH ES 3.0.

I am testing dual CPU server; Fedora is not an option in our environment. Interesting that SuSe ES 9 works fine recognizing my disks. Wonder when RH is gonna release version 4 and catch up to SuSe and a newer Linux Kernel.

I've made a disk image floppy with, what I think is the correct driver. The installation program seems to recognize it and after reading the floppy it adds "Update Compaq CISS Driver (ciss) to the list, but selecting it doesn't actually solve the problem.

This is well know problem.
You need last RH AS update 3 or high.

By the way
Fedora will work just fine with your server.
FC3 work with new kernel and new X server.
It will give you more power from same server.
But it isn't option if run DB like Oracle

Re: HP SmartArray 6i Controller Driver no werky on install of RH3 on DL360 G4

okay, I've downloaded and burned the Update 4 CDs from RedHat, and installing from those worked fine first time. A bit of a hassle, but quicker than getting a solution from HP.

cheers all.

Now to get Oracle running on the box.

Release 4 of RedHat 3 ES had scsi array drivers--which worked fine
