HPASM hangs for 5 minutes during boot or restart
DL380G4 with RHEL 3.0 update 3, prepared the disks as mirrorset (smart 6i+), installed RH (defaults + dev and kernel sources, no firewall), installed the Insight Manager 7.1.1 agents, no errors anywhere.
On the boot the hpasm service hangs for 5 minutes and afterwards the server continues to boot!!??
What should I check/do/look for???

Re: HPASM hangs for 5 minutes during boot or restart
If not, check the certification matrix. Red Hat ES 3.0 update 3 has not been available a long time and there may be a hpasm patch required.

Re: HPASM hangs for 5 minutes during boot or restart
does java works on your server ?
Check for "java -version" output.
This could be issue with new stepping CPU and java noncompatibility.

Re: HPASM hangs for 5 minutes during boot or restart
The servers are sparkling new DL380G4's, so far I have 3, all installed in the same way with the same problem for the hpasm.
The CPU's are 3,6GHz 1MB L2, if the stepping was a problem would it not be more related to the kernel than to a dependant service?
Update 3 should be certified for the server, in the matrix there are some mention if you want to run the 32bit kernel on 64bit x86 from AMD but I am not doing that.
Update 3 is required as it is the only distro that includes the driver to support for the Smart array 6i+, I started out by trying to install update 2 and dd'ing the smart array driver onto a floppy in advance, but couldn't make it work, did a system erase and used update 3 where it installed perfectly.
Will check for java output shortly, tnx for your help so far.
