i am curiously that i can't set up adsl by script but only my menual editing

i use rh 7.3 with rp-pppoe(something like this),
i follow the wizard with /usr/sbin/adsl-setup,
after my save, i start it by
/adsl-start, it did not work.

when i try adsl-connect, it echo, /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf is not available. then i copy the example pppoe.conf(only locate pppoe.conf, it appear somewhere) to the directory, modify the items one by one,
adsl-start again, no "connected" echo, but it actually work.

the other curious case is that, i have also never input the password for my adsl account.

should i could have operation unregular?

I'm not overly surprised that the adsl wizard in RH 7.3 didn't completely configure your connection for you -- I've found such niggling little problems with several Linux products.

As far as inputting your password -- I don't believe that's ever necessary to get your connection up and running. If you want to access email on your ISP's server, that'd be a different matter. After all, with DSL of any description, they know from whence the connection is coming, so really, no security per se is necessary (from their standpoint).

I'm kind o fond of my cable modem, myself...
