Install debian probliant dl380 G5
I want install debian Sarge 3.1 with HP "Net Installer ISO for Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 2.6 kernel" on i386.
The installatation of grub fails
error :
Probing device to guess BIOS drives
the file /boot/grub/stage1 not read correctly

You may note that the "netinst" installer has to get most of the components from an upstream server, you may have not installed everything for it to complete.

Probably missing drivers of controller boot disks.
I had the same problem with megaraid controller . I solved using a distro with 2.4 version of kernel.

I had some issues with particular hard drives on some workstations. I could install the OS, but when it came to booting, I couldn't get into the OS.
I ended up replacing the hard drive with a different one and had no issues.
Almost seems to me like you might be having some of the same issues.
