installing perl 5.8.7

Hi,
I need to install perl 5.8.7, I did tar -xvf perl-5.8.7 get all in one directory now, what is the next step, I also need not to overwrite existing per.

there is a depot can be downloaded from software.hp.com

and the installation is much straight forward.

in the bottom of the 1st link, there is a button, "receive for fee"...

press it and you need to fill in some info to HP and next is the download link and the installation guide.

Perl is free.
You can also buy it for 0 euro or 0 dollar :)
Or compile it yourself from source.

FWIW, it is included in all recent HP-UX ports

hello guys,

after downloading i try to install following received:

# swinstall -s /tmp/perl_D.5.8.7.A_HP-UX_B.11.11_32+64.depot perl

Start download again , this time was OK, but there is one dependencies causing problem,,
Any idea what i should do?

I never knew that was a standalone package.

I install "gdbm-1.8.3-hppa-11.11.depot" but still getting ....

Hi Ahmed,

If you have downloaded from HP-UX Porting center, you need to install all the run-time dependancies like db,libgcc, gettext, libiconv.

You can find corresponding depots on this page itself, http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Languages/perl-5.8.7/
