Installing Red Hat 8 on Proliant DL 380 G5
Hi,
I've a common problem and situation when trying to install an 'old' RH 8.0 version to DL-380 G5 machine. The problem was RH didn't recognise the smart array E200 controller.
It becoming worst, since RH 8.0 is a big different with RHEL solutions; when RHEL provides an 'update version'.
I've tried to look for driver on DL-380 drivers site:
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/family/model/6213.html?lang=en&cc=us&prodSeriesId=1121516
and didn't found RH 8 driver.
I've also downloaded from sourceforge.net:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/cciss/
But still no hint to solve this problem.
What should I do?
Where is the correct E200 controller driver for RH 8?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer...
Thanks,
[bayu]

Re: Installing Red Hat 8 on Proliant DL 380 G5
Shalom,
Get a supported distribution of Linux.
RH 8 was an orphan in many ways and simply does not have the drivers needed for a G5 server. Even if you get it to install you can't expect it to run reliabily.
If you must try this, the RH 7.x or 9.x drive may work.

Re: Installing Red Hat 8 on Proliant DL 380 G5
Hi Steven,
Actually frustated with our new applications that will works only on RH 8 :(
Before I try...
Just curious, does RH 7.X and 9.0 will recognise the E200 controller??
I still have an RH 7.3 box.
Thanks,
[bayu]

Re: Installing Red Hat 8 on Proliant DL 380 G5
Shalom,
No, neither of these OS's will be able to tolerate this server.
I've got IBM X330 servers which are less than 5 years old that can't tolerate RH 4 update 1, I had to use update 2 or better to get hardware support.
The opposite problem but it illustrates a point.
When the hardware and OS diverge too much there are problems. If you must run those applications you will need to either write drivers yourself or use different hardware. Its a shame, G5 hardware is really nice.
