Re: installing red hat linux ES AS ver 3.0
I think you should download form HP site image boot disk for ES AS 3.0 ML370 with drivers for you storage controler.
look at:

Re: installing red hat linux ES AS ver 3.0
get a boot cd for configuring the drive array from HP. This can be done by download.
Set the array up, then boot Red Hat for insall.

Re: installing red hat linux ES AS ver 3.0
Somewhere, on one of the HP servers, is a
"Supported Hardware" page.
It lists all the supported hardware for
RH 3.0 AS.
You can verify your current configuration,
and check out other devices that you may be
planning to add in the future.
I'm sorry I can't supply the URL.

Re: installing red hat linux ES AS ver 3.0
Some links (in case you don't know them)
The Linux for Proliant home page: http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/index.html
From which you can reach in a few steps:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/hpLinuxcert.html
for a certification matrix. Go to ML370 and click on RH EL3.
On the next page you find a general installation document:
I too believe you forgot to create a logical disk on your array.

Re: installing red hat linux ES AS ver 3.0
Yes, I have created an array.
Yes, I have downloaded the driver diskette as linked above.
I start the RH install. I am told that hard disks cannot be found and that I may need to manually load a driver. I select MANUALLY. It provides a list of drivers, or I can select F2 if I have a disk. I press F2. It reads the disk. Again, I get the list, and the option UPDATE COMPAQ CCISS is listed. I select it and OK. I'm then told that a Broadcom NIC is detected, but no Array Controller is listed. I reselect the UPDATE CCISS driver. Same thing. I continue, and the install failure because no hard disk is found.
Red Hat is no help, because to can any support, your system must be registered and do so that, the OS must be installed on the server. Can't install the OS on the server without the OS seeing your hard disk.
Any help is appreciated. I'm tired of going in circles.

Re: installing red hat linux ES AS ver 3.0
We had the same issue which installing Redhat AS 2.1 & 3.0 what is missing the driver for the raid controller, when the server boots of the cd select the option where it will prompt for the driver disk insert the floppy and once the hard drive is detected it is all the same from there.
The next part is to download and create the driver in a floppy for install which is available on the HP site.
Hope this helps

Re: installing red hat linux ES AS ver 3.0
I have set up an array. Tried it via the F8 prompt method and via ACU on SmartSmart. The array is configured - 4x72Gb RAID 5.
I have the driver install diskette. In fact, I have the current one and the previous one, both downloaded today. No matter if I try to load the driver after RH tells me it cannot locate a hard disk, or if I start the install via "linux dd" to tell it that I have a diskette, it will not work.
I can select the 'Update Compaq cciss' driver all day (and, in fact, have done so) - but it NEVER loads the driver and never recognizes the storage to load the OS.
Unless I'm missing something, I have done all that those here have suggested. Anything else to check?
Again, I have created my array. I have attempted to load the driver diskette downloaded from HP. NOTHING is working to solve this problem.

The latest update seems to fix some driver related problems.

Re: installing red hat linux ES AS ver 3.0
It took the Red Hat Network almost a week to get the registration for this OS/Server authorized so that we could even get access to download the Update 3 ISO images. That's unacceptable in my opinion. I should have been able to get access to those ISO images THE SAME DAY. A better method needs to be implemented for this.
It still also doesn't explain why using the non-Update 3 install CDs along with the most current HP driver did not work either. This requirement for Update 3 and the SA 6i needs to be plastered all over the place, rather than having users struggle to get the information.
"The HP ProLiant xxxx Server with Smart Array 6i REQUIRES the use of Red Hat AS 3 UPDATE 3 install images."
Pretty simple solution, if you ask me.
