I have problem with Intel Pro/1000 F Server Adapter ,Card ID A38888-004.I used last linux driver from Intel e1000-4.4.12.
Installation was OK,e1000.o was created, driver was loaded with default parameters by means of insmod e1000.
Configuration interface eth0 by measns of ifconfig was OK.
Tested ping was OK.
Then a made first ssh network connection.Working under ssh was OK.After clossing connection, adapter hangs.Ping is bad,too long time response. My config: HP Netserver LH 3000 U3, SuSE Linux 7.3,kernel
2.4.10-64 GB-SMP.I tested other integrated Intel Pro/100 adapter, installation und configuration by means of yast2.Intel Pro/100 worked correctly.
Where is the problem with Pro/1000 F? May I change same default parameters like RxIntDelay ...

Solution
The 'e1000' module that comes with the 2.4.18 kernel has the following configurable options:
TxDescriptors
RxDescriptors
Speed
Duplex
AutoNeg
FlowControl
XsumRX
RxIntDelay
These can be listed by using 'modinfo e1000'.
To set these options, you need to pass the flags to the module you're inserting. You can do this two different ways.
1) (using 'insmod')
insmod e1000 RxIntDelay=val ...=...
2) (using 'modprobe')
Modify /etc/modules.conf, add an entry similar to:
options e1000 RxIntDelay=val ...=...
with the options you want to set, then issue:
modprobe e1000
This should issue the appropriate 'insmod' with the options set. It will also take care of any other modules which are required to be inserted for the 'e1000' module to work properly (which is what 'depmod' is all about), which 'insmod' does not do.
(always a good habbit to get into, use 'modprobe' instead of 'insmod').
Hope this helps somewhat. Unfortunately, I've not used that sort of adapter before, so don't have any real-world experience debugging issues with it.

Re: intel PRO/1000 F fibre Gigabit server adapter
.. and embarrasingly enough, this post doesn't really say anything more than the instructions provided by intel at:

*sigh* bummer..
