Intel Server Board S5500BC RAID driver issue
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/s5500bc/sb/CS-030212.htm
via BIOS HW RAID 5 configured, but upon booting the system with SLES10SP2 media, YaST shows me three hard drives.. It means that SUSE does not detect the HW RAID
I think I have to install the RAID driver.
a) how to install RAID driver on SLES and RHEL ? (esp when there is no floppy drive on the machine). I have never installed the storage driver before.
b) please help me locate/find the RAID driver for linux, I searched the Intel website, but failed to find the RAID driver for Linux.
Regards
Maaz

http://forums.novell.com/novell-product-support-forums/suse-linux-enterprise-server-sles/sles-hardware/375378-intel-board-s5500bc-hw-raid-not-detected-sles10sp2.html
maybe you are the person, that inserted this case ???
But nobody ansvered yet.

in your case try to install centos ( RHEL ) and check if the RAID was recognized and if yes check the driver ( kernel modul ), and them make custom installation on SLES

Re: Intel Server Board S5500BC RAID driver issue
I think you need to wait for patches for SLES.
I can't find duplicate RH reports, so they may already have the driver built into their kernel.

Its for SAS drives RAID controller. while we have SATA disk, and no RAID controller(its a BIOS base RAID, a kind of Software RAID).

Its a Utility CD, to create RAID
Actually there is no RAID Controller on this Main Board. This is a Software RAID but enabled from the BIOS and configured(raid 1/5 etc) via a Utility CD of the Motherboard. Somewhere I read that this type of RAID are for Windows machines.
I did a complete install of SLES10 SP2, and then when I run the GUI tool for Storage Management(or Disk Partitioner) "yast2 disk", YaST gives me the following Warning/error
WARNING: This system has at least one hard disk with RAID configuration
presented by the BIOS as RAID that is in fact a Software RAID. The
following disks were detected as part of such a RAID:
/dev/sda /dev/sdb /dev/sdc
The Linux 2.4 kernel supported some of these systems(like Promise FastTrack and
HighPoint RocketRaid), but the linux 2.6 kernel does not support them at all.
If you install onto these disks, your RAID configuration and data
on the RAID will be lost
