Re: kernel upgrade

For Red Hat you get the kernel from Red Hat Network, you need a subscription. Normally, kernel upgrade is done via up2date or downloading the kernel and running:

rpm -ivh kernel-version.rpm

I don't know if RHN has available 2.6 version for RHEL 3. If so, then other dependencies must be downloaded also.

Re: kernel upgrade

Hello!

You can use an *.rpm format.

I think is better download the last version of kernel to "www.kernel.org" and use a manual configuration, but i know this is not easy.

Then you must to recompile in various mode, graphical or textual mode.
Be sure you have the gcc installed.

Re: kernel upgrade

Red Hat doesn't provide kernels 2.6 for RHEL 3.
Even it's possible technically (but not easy) I don't suggest to do this on production environment.
If you really need 2.6 kernel, take RHEL 4 or wait a few months for RHEL5.
