link down: Redhat & Emulex P9002 Driver loads (3 ES, Update-4)

After too-ing and fro-ing with the device driver and RH 3.0 ES Update 1, see the thread:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=781308

I'm now stuck with an amber light on the fibre card and "Link Down" in the /proc/scsi/lpfc file.

The module automatically loads when booted,
============================================
Module Size Used by Not tainted
lpfc 242000 1
============================================

which I verify with the above file:

=============================================
Emulex LightPulse FC SCSI 7.1.14
Emulex LightPulse LP9002 2 Gigabit PCI Fibre Channel Adapter on PCI bus 0a devi
e 08 irq 72
SerialNum: BG44973600
Firmware Version: 3.92A2 (C2D3.92A2)
Hdw: 2002606d
VendorId: 0xf90010df
Portname: 10:00:00:00:c9:42:c6:5c Nodename: 20:00:00:00:c9:42:c6:5c

Link Down
==============================================

I've tried different ports on the switch, different cables, but all NO-GO.

What should I do next to troubleshoot this please? telnet'ing to the switch shows "no sync" which I believe means it realizes something is connected, but for whatever reason the fabric login hasn't happened.

I've swapped the lpfc.conf file with my other Linx box which is running with the same driver--working fine, rebooted, but no werky-werky.

the lsmod looks slightly different after swapping the conf file and rebooting:
===========================================
lpfc 241936 0 [lpfcdfc]
===========================================

but still "no link" as before

points and thanks for suggestions
