Linux 8 installation on Dell D600 Laptop hangs

Hi,
Installed Redhat Linux 8 on Dell D600Laptop. No other OS was installed. After the Linux installation it hangs after
Ide1: BM-DMA at 0......., BIOS settings: hdc:DMA, HDD:pio

Any help??

If REd HAt is supported at all on this box, I'd recommend a newer distribution.

Newer distribution=better hardware support. Get and install the latest BIOS from Dell too.

Hi,

with notebooks often power management is a problem. Try to pass noacpi to the kernel upon startup.

I think the D600 is a rather old model laptop, rh8 should work on it.

anyway, there are a few things that can cause problems on laptops with linux:

pcmcia - remove all your pcmcia cards and try to boot like that.

power management - try to disable it in the bios or give the boot params like mentioned above.

No pcmcia cards and also with noacpi boot option it is still hanging.
