Linux driver for HP 1825 flat screen monitor

I am trying to install SuSE 9 on a system with an HP 1825 flat screen monitor but I can't find a driver that works properly. The default extends off the screen all around and can't be adjusted in size. I have tried selecting other monitors but everything else works worse than the default or not at all. I have searched all through HP's site and can't find a Linux driver for it. Anyone know where to get one?

Hello David,

did you try to run sax2 to configure the display. It does give you an option to resize the screen layout to fit your physical monitor.

Hi Martin,
Sax2 runs as part of the initial configuration and while it appears to offer the ability to change screen size the actual size never changes, at least in my setup. I have tried changing the size by specifying a different number of vertical mms and by using the shrink arrows. Both simply change the position of the desktop on the screen instead of shrinking the screen size. I just ran through the exercise again but no luck. Thanks for the input though. If anything else occurs to you please let me know.

strange, I never had this problem with sax (both with CRT and LCD displays). How much off is the screensize, just a few percent (that you might be able to adjust via the built in menu of the flatpanel) or way off (like twice of what you would expect)?

I wasn't able to adjust it using sax2 or using the built-in adjustments. Using the default monitor (unknown) the start button is way below the bottom of the screen and I have to feel around blind to find it. I can move the screen up so that I can see it but of course anything at the top of the screen goes off, and anytime the screen repaints everything goes back the way it started.

If you have one available, try the monitor out on a Windows system. A number of lcd displays have shipped in recent months with bad cables and were actually found to be incompatible with their own windows/linux drivers.

After eliminating the monitor as the factor, test it with a new distribution of Linux. Fedora or Red Hat has the widest hardware support.

Hi Stephen,

The monitor in question works fine on a Windows system and a Mac too. I have it set up on a Starview switch box so I can use one keyboard, monitor and mouse for all 3 systems. Good thought though. Thanks.
