Linux hanngs at system startup

Hello,

we have a DL 585 with SuSE Linux ES 9 (SP3), HP Management Agents 7.50 and ServiceGuard 11.16.06 installed. When booting the system, it freezes emmediately after login screen is displayed. Booting into failsave mode works. Whats different or what kind of services are skipped in this mode? There are no error messages in /var/log/messages.

Thanks a lot

Re: Linux hanngs at system startup

Hi

As the linux is starting fine and is hanging only after displaying the login screen it seems an issue with your X ( display modules/ settings etc)

Try booting your systen in runlevel 3 and see it it works properly and if it does you need to fix your X.

Cheers

Re: Linux hanngs at system startup

Thanks for you answer, but there is no X Server installed at all.

System hanged at Console login screen. I'm not really sure about the reason in detail, but after removing the IBM Tape device driver and IBMtape deamon, I didn't get the error again...
