Re: Linux Installation

Hi,

What computer are you trying to install it on ?

What SATA controller ?

You should look at RedHat's Hardware compatibility site, to see if your configuration is compatible/supported.

https://hardware.redhat.com

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Re: Linux Installation

If the installation kernel for RHES5 has compiled in support for the SATA controller where your target disk is attached to
there should be no problem.
During the install diskdruid should list this disk as available.
Btw, sata disks should be addressed like scsi disks, so your target should rather be /dev/sdd if it was the 2nd disk at the 2nd controller id.
If however, the installer doesn't see a target disk I would suspect that the standard install kernel doesn't support your controller per se.
As Rob said, you should check the HCL at Redhats' website.
Also look at the release notes.
Maybe some "concealed" boot param needs to be passed at the boot prompt for your controller?
Madness, thy name is system administration

Re: Linux Installation

Hi,

OK. I'm guessing the SATA controller is built in to the motherboard, rather than a separate card.

Looking at Gigabyte's website:

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_List.aspx?VenderType=Intel&CPUType=socket+775

They appear to have lots of different 775 based motherboards...

Cheers,

Re: Linux Installation

Hi,

Looking at the spec of your motherboard, I suspect that support for the SATA controller isn't included in the RHEL5 kernel.

You could try Fedora 7, and see if that works...

Cheers,

Rob
