Mandrake Linux 9.1 on Pavillion 596
Hey all!
Im a real Linux beginner and want to use Mandrake 9.1 with my Pavillion 596.de Desktop PC. I installed it (keeping my XP Professional install as well) and it runs just fine. The problem i have is, that i cant access the internet as well as the sound not working. The auto configuration of the internet access tells me that it could not create an connection to the internet. I double checked my provider setting (german ADSL), my account settings are correct and work with XP.
I know this is a very vague description of my problem, but all i want to know is: Is anyone here using Linux successfully on a Pavillion 596 PC? Is the hardware in there compatible with Linux?
Thanks for your time and help.

Here is mandrake HCL page :

Your laptop is not listed but it dosen't mean that it won't work.
I also can't find it on linux-latop.net.
What is the full Model # ?
Thanks,
JP

Re: Mandrake Linux 9.1 on Pavillion 596
Unless you are dedicated to Mandrake, consider SuSe or Red Hat for increased hardware support.
Laptops and Linux do not mix as well as we'd like.
You'd be much better off in text mode, but that does not give you the eye candy and sound you'd like.
