Re: memory management under kernel 2.4.2

Hello Audreau,

Do yourself a favor and update your kernel to 2.4.17. Kernels up to 2.4.9 have serious problems with VM, and because this the VM subsystem has been completely rewritten.

You can get new versions of the kernel in www.kernel.org. Get the source, unpack it and copy the .config file of 2.4.2 kernel to the directory of the new source. So, issue a "make oldconfig" and you're done.

Good luck,

i agree with Paulo in that you should upgrade. if you're using RedHat 7.x you could try the 2.4.9 RPM packaged by RedHat. in case you want to compile the kernel yourself, go for the vanilla 2.4.17. more info on Linux 2.4.x VM issues can be found from:

Re: memory management under kernel 2.4.2

GURUS,
Since the thread is already started, I will post questions regarding kernel update. What is the different btw make oldconfig and make menuconfig? cand I use make menuconfig to save off the oldconfiguration? Where is the current config located?

Let say I want to modify the current kernel config, how would I invoke make?

Thanks in advance.
