Mirror / RAID support by Linux LVM

Greetings,

I am quite new to Linux...

We are planning to connect a RHEL 4.0 box via SCSI to an external JBOD.

Does the RHEL 4.0 LVM support RAID levels like the
mirroring spplied by MirrorDisk-UX?

TIA.

Kind Regards,

Rui Vilao.

Re: Mirror / RAID support by Linux LVM

Newest versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux supports mirroring through LVM, but there is few or no documentation about this. Even with that possibility, I would use SOFTWARE RAID (md devices) + LVM instead of pure LVM as describen in the The Software-RAID HOWTO.

You will be one of the first on use it, if you have troubles, you won't find too much help.

Re: Mirror / RAID support by Linux LVM

Shalom,

The difference between HP-UX lvm and Linux lvm is that lvm is free in Linux. Its built in and costs nothing extra.

Of course the procedure for setting up raid is totally different.

On a new sytstem you can use the disk druid.

Here is a link to a procedure that mirrors root and can be used minus the boot/mbr stuff to mirror any logcial volume.

The raid tool is totally separate from lvm
