network card

I have a SMC EZethernet 10/1000 card that is using an Accton 1207D driver. I am using a Pavilion 6635 with the Intel i810 chip. I cannot seem to get any Linux or FreeBSB version to recognize these. What is wrong? Everyone I talk to says that they don't have any problems at all with these.
